An official of state-run Sonali Bank has died in just a week after testing positive with Covid-19 infection.
Mahbub Elahi, principal officer of the bank’s local branch at Motijheel in Dhaka, died at his Comilla home on Sunday night.
Earlier on May 7, Mahbub left his office for Comilla with coronavirus symptoms and was tested Covid-19 positive on May 10. He was undergoing treatment at Comilla Medical College Hospital till then.
A total of four bankers have died till now from coronavirus infection. Apart from Mahbub, two others were from City Bank while another was a Rupali Bank official. Apart from this, two more bank officials of Chittagong died with coronavirus symptoms.
Sonali Bank officials said some 30 officials have been infected with Covid-19 till now.
