Gonoshasthaya Kendra urges for swift approval of their Covid-19 test kits

Gonoshasthaya Kendra has urged the authorities concerned to complete all the necessary procedures related to the approval process of the Covid-19 test kits they developed as soon as possible.

The organization made the remarks during their meet with the committee of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) setup for carrying out clinical trial of their GR Covid-19 Dot Blot testing kit on Sunday.

Talking to Dhaka Tribune, Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, founder of Gonoshasthaya Kendra, said: “We met with the BSMMU committee who will conduct the clinical trials of our kits on Sunday. The committee will let us know what the methodology will be for the trial and how many kits they will test in the process on Monday."

“We will make sure that they have all the kits that they need.”

“We want the clinical trials done as soon as possible. We had applied for ethical approval for the clinical trials at Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC)."

“We hope we will get the approval letter from BMRC within a day or two,” he added.

Earlier on Saturday, BSMMU formed a six-member committee led by its Shahina Tabassum, professor at its virology department, to conduct the performance study (clinical trial) for the rapid Covid-19 test kits made by Gonoshasthaya Kendra.

As of Sunday, Bangladesh confirmed 9,455 coronavirus cases with the death toll rising to 177 after two new fatalities were reported.

The fast spreading Covid-19 has so far killed 245,000 people in more than 200 countries and territories.
