The United States (US) Ambassador to Bangladesh and the Australian High Commissioner in Dhaka greeted the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of Pohela Boishakh, the first day of the Bangla Year.
They sent their greetings to the Bangladeshi people on Tuesday, reports UNB.
“As we join forces to fight Covid-19, on behalf of the entire US Embassy community, including our American Spaces, I wish Bangladeshis everywhere a safe and healthy Pohela Boishakh,” said the US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl Miller.
“A huge thanks to members of the Embassy community, including our American Spaces and EdUSA colleagues, and our dear exchange program alumni for contributing photos to this special New Year's mosaic! May you and your families enjoy a healthy and hope-filled Pohela Boishakh!” reads a message shared by the US Embassy.
Australian High Commissioner in Dhaka Jeremy Bruer said in a message: “On the day when we celebrate Bengali New Year, I wish Bangladesh and its people Shubho Noboborsho!"
In these challenging times, more than ever, they must celebrate events that bring them together as people and nations, and work towards sustainable development and the welfare of all, said Jeremy.
Pohela Boishakh, the first day of the Bangla calendar, is being celebrated across the country without outdoor programs due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The day is celebrated every year on April 14 amid festivities and much enthusiasm.
This year, the usual programs were cancelled to avoid mass gatherings in a bid to curb the transmission of coronavirus.
