More than 200 Bangladeshis dead from Covid-19 abroad

At least 201 Bangladeshi expatriates and non-resident Bangladeshis have died from Covid-19, the disease caused by new strain of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, across 11 countries. 

The Bangladeshi community abroad and diplomatic sources confirmed the figure, according to media reports. 

At least 131 Bangladeshis have died in the US alone as of Sunday, the highest in any country. In the last 48 hours, nine Bangladeshis died in the country, including seven in New York and two in Washington. 

Furthermore, several hundred Bangladeshis living in the US have tested positive for the virus. 

The UK saw the second highest number of deaths of Bangladeshis infected by Covid-19. As of Monday noon, no less than 48 Bangladeshis had died there, confirmed the Bangladesh High Commission in London and Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Manchester, as well as the local Bangladeshi community as quoted by the media. 

Most of the Bangladeshis had died in London.

The US and the UK are also the two countries hosting the most Bangladeshis diagnosed with the virus, followed by Singapore, where 669 Bangladeshi nationals were found Covid-19 positive till Sunday. 

Six Bangladeshis have died in Italy, three each in Saudi Arabia and Spain, two each in Qatar and Sweden, and one each in the United Arab Emirates, Libya and Gambia.   

In Italy, Spain, Kuwait, Malaysia and Germany, at least 74, 70, 25, 12 and 10 Bangladeshis were reported as infected, respectively. Around 20 Bangladeshis have contracted the novel coronavirus in each of Canada and France.
