Golam Saklain sent on forced retirement from govt service

The government has sent former Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and currently serving as Additional Superintendent of Police at the Jhenaidah In-Service Training Centre, Md Golam Saklain, into compulsory retirement over allegations of a relationship with film actress Pori Moni in 2021.

The Public Security Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification in this regard on Thursday. The order was signed by Senior Secretary of the ministry Senior Secretary Monjur Morshed Chowdhury on behalf of the President.

Earlier on June 13, 2024, the Discipline-2 Branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs, through a letter signed by Deputy Secretary Rokeya Parvin Jui, sought the opinion of the Public Service Commission (PSC) on taking disciplinary action against Golam Saklain, including compulsory retirement as a major penalty.

The letter stated that forensic analysis of mobile phone data had revealed evidence of Golam Saklain’s presence at the residence of film actress Pori Moni on multiple occasions, at different times of the day and night. In light of these findings, the PSC’s opinion was sought regarding the proposed disciplinary action.

It is noted that following an incident at a boat club in Birulia of Savar on June 13, 2021, film actress Pori Moni filed a case alleging attempted rape and physical assault. In connection with the case, police arrested businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud and several others the following day.

During the investigation, Pori Moni was called to the Detective Branch office for questioning, where she came into contact with then ADC of the DB’s Gulshan Division, Golam Saklain. Investigation sources said the two later developed regular communication.

Sources also claimed that in August 2021, Pori Moni stayed for an extended period at Golam Saklain’s official residence in Rajarbagh. The issue came into public attention after she was arrested in a drug-related case following a raid by the Department of Narcotics Control on August 4 of the same year.
