Home Minister and BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has stated that the current government will take all necessary steps in line with the spirit and aspirations of the July Mass Uprising.
He specifically confirmed that the indemnity (legal immunity) granted to those who participated in the July movement will be upheld by the government.
The minister made these remarks on Tuesday morning while speaking to journalists before attending the first meeting of a special committee of the 13th National Parliament at the Parliament building.
Salahuddin Ahmed said that a total of 133 ordinances were issued during the tenure of the interim government. These ordinances will be reviewed in detail in the meeting. According to parliamentary rules, a final decision must be reached within 30 working days.
We will make decisions in every case by giving the highest priority to the aspirations of the July mass uprising,” he said.
The home minister also addressed the issue of politically motivated naming of various institutions during the previous government led by the Bangladesh Awami League.
He said that reviewing and potentially changing controversial names is one of the key agenda items of the meeting, and effective decisions will be taken in response to public demand.
