Railway Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan has said that despite some limitations, this year’s Eid journey has been smooth, as no complaints were received from passengers regarding suffering or inconvenience.
Fouzul made the comment while speaking to reporters during a visit to Kamalapur Railway Station at 12:15pm on Thursday, reports Bangla Tribune.
The adviser said the government has been working for everyone, regardless of political affiliation, in the aftermath of the July uprising.
“We have taken all necessary measures to ensure that everyone can reach their hometowns properly for Eid. Strict monitoring has been carried out to prevent ticketless travel on trains. A three-tier security arrangement has been implemented at Kamalapur Railway Station,” he said.
He also noted that cleanliness is being given due importance.
When asked about passengers traveling on train rooftops, he said: “We have discouraged this practice. However, due to Eid, many people are desperate to reach home by any means. Sometimes, leniency is shown on humanitarian grounds. Even so, I have instructed railway officials to monitor the situation closely.”
Meanwhile, mobile court drives have been intensified on roads to check whether excessive fares are being charged.
The adviser mentioned that on Thursday morning, in his presence, a Lal Sobuj Paribahan bus was fined Tk5,000 at Sayedabad.
Earlier, at noon, he inspected the ticket counters and platforms at Kamalapur Railway Station.
During the visit, he checked passengers' tickets and inquired about their experiences and any issues they faced.
