Sheikh Moinuddin, Faiz Taiyeb Ahmad appointed as special assistants to chief adviser

Two new special assistants have been appointed to the chief adviser of the interim government, both with the rank of state minister.

Sheikh Moinuddin will oversee the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, while Faiz Taiyeb Ahmad will be responsible for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology.

They have been granted executive authority in line with their respective roles.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Wednesday saying that while serving as special assistants, they will receive the salary, benefits, and privileges of a state minister.

Following the mass uprising, Sheikh Hasina's government fell on August 5 last year. Subsequently, the interim government was formed on August 8, with Professor Muhammad Yunus taking on the role of chief adviser.

Over the past seven months, the advisory council has undergone several reshuffles and new appointments. The interim government now comprises 23 advisers, including the chief adviser.

On Wednesday, Professor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar (CR Abrar) was sworn in as an adviser, taking on the responsibility of the Ministry of Education.

Previously, Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud was in charge of both the education and planning ministries, but he will now focus solely on the planning ministry. The Cabinet Division has issued a separate notification regarding the redistribution of portfolios.

The interim government also includes a special assistant (for Defence and National Solidarity Development), a special envoy (for International Affairs), and a high representative (for Rohingya issues and other priority matters) with the rank of adviser.

Additionally, three special assistants with the rank of state minister were already serving in the Home, Health, and Education Ministries. With the latest appointments, Sheikh Moinuddin will now oversee the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, and Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb will take charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology.

On February 25, Md Nahid Islam resigned from his position as an adviser to the interim government. He has since become the convener of the new political party, the National Citizen Party.
