Bangladesh recalls five embassy officials

Five officials working at the Bangladesh embassies and high commissions in five countries have been removed from their positions and instructed to return to Bangladesh.

A notification regarding this has recently been issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The recalled officials are: Tayab Ali, Counsellor (Press) at the Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan, Sufi Abdullahil Maruf, First Secretary (Press) at the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Arifur Rahman, First Secretary (Press) at the Bangladesh Consulate General Office of Bangladesh in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Asaduzzaman Khan, Second Secretary (Press) at the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Imranul Hasan, Second Secretary (Press) at the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo, Japan.

The notification says that these officials, who are working in the press wings of Bangladesh missions abroad under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, should return to Bangladesh within 15 working days for reappointment.

Earlier, on November 24, the government appointed two journalists as Press Ministers at the Bangladesh High Commissions in New Delhi and London.

Akbar Hossain Mojumder, a senior journalist from BBC Dhaka Bureau, was appointed to the UK mission, and Faisal Mahmud was appointed to the New Delhi mission.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued separate notifications for their two-year contracts.
