Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem said that a special drive will be conducted to find the house owners who have not filed income tax returns.
He said this in the pre-budget discussion organized by NBR on Thursday.
Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem added: “It has been two years since the provision of mandatory submission of returns by house owners. Now it is time to take action. We have identified the house owners. We have simplified the process of paying taxes and not just filing returns.”
The e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-Cab) proposed to abolish the requirement to collect the proof of income tax return submission of the house owners at the event.
In the meeting, some associations including Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) presented the budget proposal for the next fiscal year 2024-25.
Bajus presented several proposals including reducing VAT on the sale of jewellery items.
In this regard, the NBR chairman said: “We have taken several initiatives including reducing duty to increase gold import through legal ways, but still gold is not being imported. But gold ornaments are being made in the country.”
