Railway Minister Md Zillul Hakim said that the Bangladesh Railway is incurring losses due to mismanagement.
He said this to reporters after inspecting the central locomotive factory located in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur on Saturday.
The railway minister said: “We have already taken some decisions in this regard. Will take several necessary steps to make it profitable, and will consult with railway authorities."
The minister said that two gangs have already been detained regarding ticket black marketing. Many government agencies have been mobilized in order to prevent ticket scalping before Eid,” he said.
“Shohoz has also been warned in this regard. Steps have been taken to bring anyone involved to justice,” he added.
"There are many issues involved. We need new railway coaches, engines, drivers, stationmasters and various technical people,”Md Zillul Hakim said about opening a land port by establishing a railway link from Birol to Radhikapur in India,
He said: “The prime minister's instruction is to expand railway lines to reach every district. Because it is cheaper for both passengers and cargo. We're trying to launch an affordable transportation system.”
The factory's capacity will be increased after a thorough discussion. There is a shortage of manpower. Necessary steps will be taken in 2024, he said.
