Several thousand government officials and employees, whose jobs were transferred to the revenue sector from different development projects implemented between 1972 to 1997, have been facing difficulty in getting pensions after retirement due to some deficiencies in the rules and two circulars of the finance ministry.
Some officials and employees including those who worked in the Department of Family Planning under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have been getting only 80% of their pensions owing to the situation.
Authorities have been deducting the remaining 20%, according to the officials and employees transferred to the revenue sector from projects.
The leaders of Government Employees Welfare Association have sought the prime minister’s intervention on Tuesday following a press conference in Dhaka.
They urged to resolve the problems by cancelling the two circulars and clearing the provisions of the government rules and guidelines.
Government Employees Welfare Association Secretary General Md Nazrul Islam said the duel policy of the government has created suffering for the regularized project employees. They are facing huge losses in their pension.
He claimed that cancellation of the two circulars and clearing the provisions in the guidelines can resolve the problem.
Nazrul Islam also urged the prime minister to resolve the problem for the betterment of the suffering employees.
