The US Embassy in Dhaka has warned that certain activities are not permitted for holders of B1/B2 visitor visas, including birth tourism, paid employment and formal study for academic credit.
The embassy issued the warning on Saturday through its verified Facebook page, outlining activities that cannot be undertaken under the visitor visa category.
B1/B2 visitor visas are used for temporary travel to the United States for specific purposes, including short-term business activities, tourism, holidays and medical treatment.
According to the embassy, the following activities are not permitted on a B1/B2 visitor visa:
- Birth tourism — travelling to the United States to give birth for the purpose of obtaining US citizenship for the child.
- Paid employment — working for or receiving remuneration from a US employer or business.
- Formal study — studying towards a degree or institutional academic credit.
- Paid work — performing work in exchange for payment.
