Fakhrul: China supports Bangladesh’s development

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said China has been supporting Bangladesh’s development efforts and expressed hope for greater cooperation in the future.

He made the remarks while addressing a program for the distribution of school bags and educational materials among students in Thakurgaon under a joint Bangladesh-China initiative at Shaheed Mohammad Ali Stadium in the district town.

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen attended the event as the guest of honor.

Held under the theme “Developing Young Talent, Building a Brighter Future,” the program distributed school bags, notebooks, pens and other educational materials among around 6,500 students in Thakurgaon.

Speaking at the event, Fakhrul said China is one of the world’s most advanced countries and continues to make remarkable progress.

“China has been contributing to the development of people in different countries, and it is also supporting Bangladesh’s development,” he said.

The minister said he wanted to involve Chinese partners in several development projects in Thakurgaon.

Referring to discussions with the Chinese ambassador, Fakhrul said a Chinese delegation is expected to visit Thakurgaon within this year or next year to explore opportunities for establishing industries in the district.

He also highlighted the government’s commitment to improving education and child development.

“Our prime minister wants to work for children, ensure quality education and create opportunities for their development,” he said, adding that the government has undertaken initiatives to provide free educational materials and training opportunities to help students compete in a changing world.

Addressing students and guardians, Fakhrul said China’s development was achieved through hard work, education and dedication.

“No nation can become developed automatically. China reached its current position through the efforts of its people, particularly its educated youth,” he said.

Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen said educational materials would continue to be distributed among Bangladeshi students every year.

“Students are the future of the country. I hope these educational materials will help advance their studies,” he said.

The ambassador also expressed interest in exploring agricultural cooperation in the region, noting that Thakurgaon has vast agricultural land.

He said a Chinese delegation is scheduled to visit the district in July or August this year.

Yao Wen further announced plans to arrange study visits to China for students from the area next year.

“Gradually, more students will have the opportunity to visit China and strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Bangladesh and China,” he said.

Among others present at the event were Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rafiqul Haque, Superintendent of Police Belal Hossain, Thakurgaon BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Paigam Ali, teachers, students and officials from various government departments.
