Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Tuesday said that Bangladesh will continue to support the people of Palestine.
"The 'March for Gaza' rally was an expression of Bangladesh's continued support for and solidarity with the Palestinian people," Jahangir said when Palestinian Ambassador to Bangladesh Yousef SY Ramadan paid a courtesy call on him at his ministry office.
The adviser said the "March for Gaza" rally was held in Dhaka on Saturday, expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and their demands.
He reaffirmed that Bangladesh stands in favor of the independence and sovereignty of Palestine.
The adviser and the envoy discussed various issues of mutual interest, including the recent "March for Gaza," the visit of the Palestine TV delegation to Dhaka, and the issuance of a commemorative passport in the name of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Bangladesh.
Welcoming the ambassador, the adviser said Palestine is a tested friend of Bangladesh.
"Our support and cooperation for them will always continue," he said.
Expressing his sincere thanks to Bangladesh for organizing the "March for Gaza" program in Dhaka, the envoy said that Bangladesh has done what many other Muslim countries, including those in the Arab world, could not do.
The ambassador noted that the Palestinian brothers and sisters were curious to know the special reason behind Bangladesh holding such a large protest rally against the barbaric massacre, torture, and oppression committed by Israel.
In response, the adviser mentioned that the Muslims of Bangladesh are truly devout.
The ambassador said a delegation from Palestine TV will visit Bangladesh on May 17 to further inform Palestinian people about Bangladesh’s solidarity and compassion towards Palestine.
He added that the team will collect detailed information on the issue and prepare a documentary, which will be aired on Palestine TV.
The envoy also requested the adviser to issue a commemorative passport in the name of the Al-Aqsa Mosque from Bangladesh.
In response, the adviser assured him that the commemorative passport would be issued with the approval of the concerned authorities, including the office of the chief adviser.
