Army chief off to Central African Republic

Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman departed from Dhaka on Monday for a three-day official visit to the Central African Republic.

During his visit, he will inspect the activities of the Bangladeshi contingents stationed in the Central African Republic, as well as the Bangladeshi peacekeepers serving there, according to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Additionally, the army chief is scheduled to inaugurate a community clinic built by Bangladesh Army peacekeepers to serve the local population, the release said.

Currently, five contingents of the Bangladesh Army are engaged in peacekeeping missions in the Central African Republic.

Since 2014, a total of 9,961 army personnel have served as peacekeepers in the conflict-ridden country, and 11 army personnel have sacrificed their lives while carrying out peacekeeping operations, the release added.
