154 more stranded Bangladeshis repatriated from Libya

A total of 154 undocumented Bangladeshi migrants were repatriated from Libya on Friday, in a coordinated effort by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh Mission in Tripoli, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), according to a press release from the foreign ministry.

The returnees arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka at 7am on a chartered flight operated by Buraq Air.

Upon their arrival, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and IOM were present to welcome and assist the migrants.

As part of the repatriation process, IOM provided each individual with Tk6,000 in cash, along with food supplies, medical care, and temporary accommodation.

This operation is part of a broader, ongoing initiative led by the Bangladesh government and IOM to repatriate Bangladeshi nationals who have been stranded in Libya without proper documentation.

The foreign ministry, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, has been working closely with IOM to ensure the safe and dignified return of these vulnerable individuals, the press release stated.

The efforts reflect a continued commitment to bring back Bangladeshis who find themselves in challenging circumstances abroad, especially those without legal status in foreign countries.
