Ghanaian foreign minister arrives in Dhaka

Foreign Minister of Ghana Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has arrived in Dhaka with a delegation for a bilateral visit.

Foreign Ministry Director General (Africa) AFM Zahid Ul Islam received her at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday.

The Ghanaian delegation would have several meetings during its stay to discuss issues of common interests, the foreign ministry said.

Botchwey is a candidate for the Commonwealth secretary general post, the election for which will be held in October.

She was campaigning for the election, and at the same time making bilateral visits, a senior official at the foreign ministry told Dhaka Tribune.

“We want to use her visit to strengthen bilateral ties and push our products in the Ghanaian market,” the official said requesting anonymity.

Besides, Ghana is the current chair of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF).

Bangladesh has led the forum before.

With the foreign minister's visit, both sides will be able to discuss climate change.
