Case filed against 23 armed Myanmar nationals who fled to Bangladesh

A case has been filed against 23 Myanmar armed nationals who have entered Bangladesh illegally with weapons amid clashes between the Myanmar military and the armed rebel group Arakan Army.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) filed the case under the Arms Act.

The Myanmar nationals have been handed over to the police, Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police Md Mahafuzul Islam confirmed.

Around 15 weapons have also been handed over to the police on behalf of the BGB, said the SP.

No statement could be received on behalf of BGB on the matter.

The police have recorded the case and taken legal action.

Regarding a question SP Md Mahafuzul Islam  said: “All 23 individuals handed over to the police with weapons are displaced citizens of Myanmar.”

Authorities concerned said some armed individuals infiltrated through the border on Tuesday. Local representatives and locals detained them and handed them over to the police. However, it has been confirmed from multiple sources that some terrorists from the group led by the Rohingya terrorist Nabi Hossain have entered the Rohingya camps.

Earlier Palongkhali Union Parishad Chairman Gofur Uddin Chowdhury said: “Many had fled to Bangladesh through the Rahmatbil and Anjumanpara borders on Tuesday. Most of them have sought shelter with the BGB after surrendering their weapons. In addition to this, more than 30 armed Rohingyas have been detained and handed over to the police. The police have placed them under BGB custody. Information about some armed Rohingyas entering the camps has been obtained in various ways and has been informed to the administration.”

Member of 3rd ward of Palongkhali Union Parishad Altaf Hossain said: “A group of Rohingya terrorists led by Nabi Hossain had been known to reside across the border in Myanmar for a long time. These terrorists were hiding on the other side of the Rahmatbil border. After the incident of conflict, this group infiltrated the camps with weapons. On Tuesday at least 50-60 individuals from this group entered the Rohingya camps with weapons. Although, local representatives and locals have detained 30-35 armed Rohingyas from the same group and handed them over to the law enforcement agencies.”

Superintendent of Police Khondokar Fazle Rabbi said: “I am unaware of their entry into the Rohingya camp. However, since Tuesday night, it has been learned that the terrorist group leader Nabi Hossain and his members have crossed the border from Myanmar into Bangladesh. Maximum alertness is being maintained in anticipation of his possible entry into the camp. He will be arrested immediately upon being found. Additionally, APBn is vigilant to prevent any terrorists from entering the camp.”
