UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific Kanni Wignaraja led a six-member delegation to visit the Ukhiya Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar.
The delegation arrived at the Ukhiya Rohingya camp on Monday morning.
Additional Commissioner of Refugee Relief and Repatriation Office Shamsud Douza Nayan said that the delegation toured camp 17, extended part of camp 20, camp 4, and the Kutupalong registrar camp under the leadership of Kanni Wignaraja.
During the day-long visit, the UN delegation inspected the World Food Programme (WFP) run e-voucher centre, the UNHCR and NGO Forum managed pilot project “Modern Village”, Brac's initiatives in the Rohingya camp, and the environmental and conservation programs led by International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) at the Kutupalong registrar camp.
Later, the delegation exchanged views at the camp in charge (CiC) office with officials from the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Office, representatives from various international organizations, officials from the Bangladesh law enforcement agencies, and project officers from different initiatives.
The delegation also toured various shelters constructed under different projects in the camp, visited the homes of Rohingyas, and inquired about their living conditions.
The team commended the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) for their security efforts in the Rohingya camp.
Present with the delegation were Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, 14 APBn Commander Additional Deputy Inspector General Mohammad Iqbal and Police Superintendent Md Saifuzzaman
