Sheikh Kamal’s birthday observed in New Delhi

The Bangladesh high commission in New Delhi on Saturday paid homage to valiant freedom fighter Captain Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on the occasion of his 74th birth anniversary.

The mission held elaborate programs involving a discussion, documentary screening and a special prayer, it said in a statement.

At the outset, messages of President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion were read out to the audience.

During the discussion session, High Commissioner Mustafizur Rahman recalled the exceptional leadership quality of Sheikh Kamal.

He paid tribute to Sheikh Kamal for his role in the Liberation War as a freedom fighter and as an organizer, and then his contribution to sports, art and music after the independence of the country.

He added that Sheikh Kamal got all his attributes from his father, Bangabandhu, and his family and that these attributes were reflected in his personal, social and cultural life.

Though his life was cut short on the night of August 15, 1975, Sheikh Kamal left behind his significant mark as an ideal Bangali during his short lifetime, he added.

Selim Md Jahangir, minister (consular) of the mission, also spoke on the occasion and reflected on the legacy of Sheikh Kamal.

A documentary on the life of Sheikh Kamal was also screened.

A special prayer seeking eternal peace and salvation of the departed soul of Sheikh Kamal and his family members was also offered.
