Tripura CM gifts PM Hasina 100 cartons of pineapples

After receiving mangoes as gifts from Bangladesh, Chief Minister of India's Tripura Manik Saha sent 100 cartons of pineapples as a return gift for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday

Some 980kg (700 pieces) of pineapples of the “kew” variety, arrived at Akhaura land port in Brahmanbaria at around 7:30pm.

The handover ceremony was overseen by representatives from the Tripura government, including Dr Fani Bhushan Jamatia, director of the Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Joint Director Shantanu Debbarma, Assistant Director Dr Deepak Baidya and others at the zero point of Akhaura-Agartala land port.

Dr Fani Bhushan Jamatia said: “The prime minister of Bangladesh had sent gifts to the chief minister of Tripura. That is why he has sent pineapples as a return gift. This will strengthen the bond between India and Bangladesh.”

On June 15, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sent 500kg of mangoes to Chief Minister Manik Saha. 

Before that, on June 10, the Bangladeshi premier sent 3,000kg of mangoes to the chief ministers of Northeast India, including Assam and Meghalaya.
