Emirates Red Crescent Authority (ERC) hascollected more than $18 million funding in a weeklong campaign tosupport the Rohingyarefugees sheltered in Bangladesh.
The nationwide campaign carried out in the last week of May amassed the fund from various platforms including social media and thousands of individuals andcharities, according to a press release by the UAE Embassy in Dhaka on Monday.
The ERC launched the campaign, supported by all the UAE leaders, under thedirectives of its President Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
“In Bangladesh, more than one million Rohingyas have been given shelter. We need to benefit all of them, especially the women and children. Thistime, our government decided to let the UAE people participate in helpingRohingya Muslim brothers and generate their donations” said UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh Saed Mohammed AL Mheiri.
From the beginning of the Rohingya crisis, UAE has extended its supports to emergency relief for food, shelter, health to Rohingya women and children inBangladesh.
“We feel proud that the UAE was the first country which startedhumanitarian efforts in Bangladesh for Rohingya people and carried out anumber of projects for the benefits of children and women in collaborationwith the UNHCR,” the UAE ambassador said.
The UAE is also providing health services for the Rohingya people in Bangladesh through the UAE Bangladesh Volunteer Field Hospital in Cox’s Bazaras the first Arab country to run a field hospital for theRohingyas, said the release.
A Malaysian-Saudi-Emirati field hospital with the UAE donated modern equipment was also set up in Cox’s Bazar in early 2018.
The UAE also launched a project supervised by the ERC and several Emirati donors to dig 100 wells to provide clean water in the Rohingya campsin Cox’s Bazar.
Moreover, UAE donated $2million to help address malnutrition among young Rohingyasand their mothers.
The embassy of UAE in Dhaka is closely monitoring all relief activitiesoperated by different UAE organizations from the very beginning of theRohingya crisis, said the release.
