Hasina at Abe’s office; guard of honour given

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has held a bilateral meeting with her Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe, at his office.

Sheikh Hasina was given a guard of honour when she reached the Japanese Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday.

Following bilateral talks, there will be a signing ceremony and joint press statement.

Bangladesh and Japan are scheduled to sign their 40th ODA deal, costing US$ 2.5 billion, for implementing five projects; as her visit is expected to bolster ties between the two countries.

The five projects, taken under the 40th Official Development Assistance (ODA) package deal, are: the Matarbari Port Development Project (1), the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Line 1), the Foreign Direct Investment Promotion Project (II), the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Promotion Financing Project (Phase 2), and the Matarbari Ultra Super Critical Coal-Fired Power Project (V).

Later in the evening, Hasina will attend the official dinner to be hosted by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at his residence.
