Tripura CM: Tripura will become gateway to Northeast India

On the sidelines of the Delhi Dialogue organized by India’s External Affairs Ministry at New Delhi on Friday, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb underscored the state’s importance as an emerging gateway to Northeast Indian states in the near future.

“Once the connection between Sabroom and Chittagong becomes operational, and Chittagong port is available for the movement of goods via Sabroom in Tripura to other Northeastern Indian states, Tripura will emerge as a gateway to Northeast India,” said the chief minister.

The dialogue was presided over by India’s Minister of State for External Affairs General (retd) V K Singh, with a number of representatives of ASEAN countries, chief ministers of Northeast Indian states, diplomats and senior officials in attendance.

Highlighting the historical and cultural links between Northeast India and the ASEAN countries, Deb said closer cultural and economic ties would be mutually beneficial.
