Myanmar ready to take back the Rohingya

Myanmar has proposed to repatriate the Rohingya people who have entered Bangladesh fleeing the violence in the Rakhine State since August 25. Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali disclosed the matter while briefing the media Monday afternoon, after holding a meeting with Minister of the Office of Myanmar’s State Counsellor Kyaw Tint Swe. Mahmood Ali said: “Kyaw Tint Swe has shown interest in taking them [the Rohingya] back after forming a joint working group to identify the Rohingya people. However, the Myanmar minister did not disclose anything regarding the framework of the commission.

He also hoped that a bilateral agreement on Rohingya repatriation will be signed soon. While talking about Myanmar’s attitude towards repatriation, the minister said: “If we comment or express any doubt regarding that matter then discussion process might be delayed.” According to UN, at least 501, 800 Rohingya have entered Bangladesh since August 25.
