Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin has said that the Election Commission is moving ahead with full preparations for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary polls and reaffirmed its commitment to act as a neutral referee in the electoral process.
“Let those who wish to compete, compete. Let the winners win. But our job is to ensure a level playing field—and we are determined to do that,” he told EC officials at a post-Eid coordination meeting on Sunday at the Election Commission headquarters.
The meeting was attended by all four election commissioners, the EC secretary, and senior officials.
The EC chief underscored that many key preparatory tasks had already been completed and the rest would be accomplished through collective effort. “Our vow is to gift the nation a fair, peaceful and credible election,” he said, calling for unity and integrity within the EC.
He also referred to the government’s international outreach, stating that commitments are being made to world leaders—including those in London and Tokyo—about the intention to deliver a historic election. “They are making such pledges because they have confidence in us,” the CEC said.
Addressing the officials, he reminded them of their promise during Ramadan to carry out their duties responsibly, urging them once again to act impartially, follow the law, and serve the electoral process with fairness.
It is worth noting that earlier, Chief Adviser of the interim government Dr Muhammad Yunus had mentioned that the election might be held by the first half of April.
However, if sufficient progress is made regarding reforms and trials, the vote may take place even before Ramadan begins in February, he added.
Following a meeting with BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman in London on Friday, a joint statement announced that the election could be held earlier than previously indicated.
