Mymensingh division: Fight likely to get fierce for 19 seats

Bangladesh is holding its 12th general election amidst concerns about low voter turnout. However, 19 of the 24 constituencies of Mymensingh division are likely to see strong competition in the race for parliament.

Mymensingh

In Mymensingh-2, Awami League leader Sharif Ahmed is competing with independent Shah Shahid Sarwar, former MP and expelled BNP leader. 

In Mymensingh-3, Awami League's Nilufar Anjum Poppy’s opponents are Somnath Saha, who is an independent. This area has traditionally been known as the Awami League's stronghold. 

In Mymensingh-4, the Awami League candidate is Mohit Ur Rahman Shanto. Independent candidate Aminul Haque Shamim, who is contesting the polls independently, will likely give him tough competition. Independent candidate Delwar Hossain Dulu is also likely to get some votes.

Jamalpur

In Jamalpur-2, Awami League's candidate is Faridul Haque Khan, state minister for religious affairs. District Awami League Advisor Ziaul Haque and Shahjahan Ali Mondal are independent candidates for this seat. Mustafa Al Mahmoud of the Jatiya Party is also contesting the polls.

In Jamalpur-4, Awami League candidate Mahbubur Rahman Helal and independent candidate former state minister Dr Murad Hasan are expected to have a tough fight. At the same time, Md Abul Kalam Azad (JaPa), Tarikh Mahdi (BNF) and Md Saiful Islam Tukon (Trinamool BNP) will be active with a strong position in the field. 

Netrakona

In Netrakona-1, Awami League candidate Mushtaq Ahmed Ruhi will square off against independents Jannatul Ferdous and Jhuma Talukder.

In Netrakona-2, Arif Khan Joy, an independent, will compete against Boat's Ashraful Ali Khan Khosru. 

In Netrakona-3, Awami League's Asim Kumar Ukil is likely to face tough competition from independent candidate Iftekhar Uddin Talukder Pintu.

In Netrakona-5, Awami League's Ahmad Hossain will face off against Dr Anwar Hossain, who is considered a strong independent candidate. Apart from this, there are Wahiduzzaman Talukder Azad of JaPa and Abdul Wahab of Trinamool BNP.
