Three prominent candidates from the Awami League, Jatiya Party, and an independent contender are leaving their imprint across Jessore Sadar in the lead-up to the 12th national parliamentary election.
Kazi Nabil Ahmed, the incumbent Member of Parliament representing Jessore-3 (Sadar) constituency and the Awami League’s candidate, conducted a campaign in the Collectorate Market area of Jessore city on Thursday afternoon.
Simultaneously, the independent candidate, Mohit Kumar Nath, who is also the Jessore Sadar upazila Awami League president, campaigned in Jessore’s Boro Bazar area.
Jatiya Party candidate Advocate Mahbub Alam Bachchu engaged in campaigning at Mujib Road in the city.
Reflecting on the campaign, MP Kazi Nabil Ahmed said: “There has been a tremendous response among the people. The prime minister has entrusted me to represent the ‘boat’ for the third time in Jessore. All the candidates in Jessore Sadar, including myself, are campaigning smoothly amid the festive atmosphere.”
He said: “there is not just one independent candidate; eight individuals are contesting the election.”
He dismissed claims of hindrance in campaigning and emphasized that everyone is actively participating in a fair electoral environment.
Optimistic about the victory of the “boat,” Kazi Nabil said, “Over the last 10 years, I have dedicated myself to the development of schools, colleges, and roads in Jessore Sadar. People will support the ‘boat’ to ensure the continuity of this work because the trust of the common people is with us.”
Contrastingly, during his campaign in the Boro Bazar area, independent candidate Mohit Kumar, fighting under the symbol of the “eagle,” alleged that there has been no development activity in Jessore Sadar in the past decade.
He accused “boat” activists of obstructing his electoral work and plundering people’s wealth. Nath confidently predicted that on January 7, the people of Jessore would respond fittingly by defeating the “boat” and choosing his “eagle”.
On another front, Advocate Mahbub Alam Bachchu, campaigning for the “plough” symbol, claimed that two Awami League candidates have entered the field to impede them in Jessore Sadar.
Asserting that no obstacle can thwart their progress, he stated that Jatiya Party activists are campaigning tirelessly from morning till night, confidently declaring that Jessore-3 seats would belong to Jatiya Party this time.
The total number of voters in Jessore Sadar is 579,937, comprising 292,947 men, 286,984 women, and six transgenders. A total of eight candidates are competing for this parliamentary seat.
