The Election Inquiry Committee on Saturday served show-cause notices to the Awami League candidate for the Manikganj-2 constituency singer Momotaz Begom MP for violating the electoral code of conduct ahead of the January 7 polls.
Manikganj Joint District and Sessions Judge Rezmin Sultana issued the notice and asked to explain her position in person or send a representative to the court at 12pm on Monday.
The notice said: "As a candidate for the parliamentary seat of Manikganj-2, Momotaz Begom has been conducting election campaigns in favour of the boat symbol through various rallies with local people at different times. Since these activities occurred three weeks before the election, such actions are clear violations of the election code of conduct."
"The candidate has violated the provision of Rule 12 of the National Parliament Election Conduct Rules-2008 through these activities," the EC said.
