Action will be taken against those involved in physically assaulting Hero Alom, Election Commissioner Md Alamgir said on Monday.
“The Hero Alom incident is an injustice, and steps are underway to take action against those involved,” the election commissioner said at a post-election briefing in front of journalists at the Nirbachan Bhaban.

He said that Monday's by-election was held in a fair and peaceful manner. “I have not seen any incident of unrest so far. In Dhaka, 14%-15% voting was recorded… Something happened in a polling centre, that does not mean there was chaos.”
He added that the Election Commission was satisfied with the peaceful vote.
Responding to a remark that the Election Commission has become a “part of a political party,” EC Alamgir said: “Everyone has the right to say such things in a democratic country. People will decide whether we have become an organ of a party or not.”
