Family claimed that Yeasin Sheikh, 35, who was injured by police firing during the EVM robbery call in the Latifpur union parishad election of Gopalganj Sadar upazila, died at the private BNK Hospital near Rajarbagh Police Line in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Sister-in-law of the deceased Amena Begum confirmed the information.
However, Gopalganj Sadar police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Md Jabed Masud has not confirmed his death yet.
At least 25 people, including 10 policemen and Ansar members, were injured in the violent incident of attempted snatching of EVM in Gopalganj demanding cancellation of UP election results.
This incident took place in the Latifpur Union Parishad election of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila on Monday evening, Gopalganj Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Jabed Masud confirmed.
After the voting, Sabu Molla was declared the winner of the ward election.
In the evening, when the law enforcers and election officers were returning to the Gopalganj district headquarters with the electoral material, supporters of the defeated candidates Matiar Rahman Fakir, Palu Molla and Ibrahim Kazi attacked them.
They demanded the cancellation of the polls and tried to snatch the electoral material.
As a result, a clash with the law-enforcement forces took place in the area, leaving at least 25 people, including the OC of Sadar police station among 10 members of the law and order force, injured.
At that time, the attackers vandalized the vehicles of Gopalganj Sadar Assistant Commissioner (Land) and OC.
However, the police brought the situation under control by firing shotgun shots.
