Voting ends in 58 UPs, 7 upazilas, 4 municipalities

Voting has ended in 58 union parishads (UPs), seven upazilas and four municipalities across Bangladesh for the election of new representatives.

Balloting started at 8am on Wednesday amid tight security and continued until 4pm without any breaks.

CCTV cameras were installed in the four municipalities – Chittagong's Fatikchhari, Jamalpur's Hazrabari, Dinajpur's Parbatipur and Sylhet's Bishwanath – for monitoring, according to media reports.

There was a total of 62 polling centres in the 36 wards of the four municipalities. A total of 383 voting booths are being used for the election.

Meanwhile, the seven upazilas are Chittagong's Karnaphuli, Sunamganj's Jagannathpur, Sylhet's Osmaninagar, Netrokona Sadar, Kushtia's Khoksa, and Kurigram's Rowmari and Chilmari.

Polls were held for 11 UP chairman posts and general and reserve members in different wards of 58 unions.

The Election Commission set up a high-level monitoring cell to observe all the polls.
