Election Commissioner Rasheda Sultana on Thursday said that by-elections to Zilla Parishad and Gaibandha 5 constituencies would be conducted through electronic voting machines (EVM).
Addressing a views exchange meeting at Rangpur Circuit House, she announced that the election to Rangpur City Corporation would be held in December this year.
The commissioner added that CCTV cameras would be installed at every centre across the country to ensure full-proof security during the next parliamentary elections.
She said: “Those who raise doubts about EVMs have been called many times to bring experts and to find out the faults in EVM. But so far, no political party or any individual could detect any problem. Word of mouth will not work; we want evidence.”
EC Rasheda said they had received no complaints of rigging or irregularities after holding the parliamentary elections to Rangpur 3 constituency using EVM.
“Currently, the Union Parishad and City Corporation elections are being conducted through EVMs across the country. When someone expressed doubts about EVM, we sat with the experts and took their opinion. We also invited political parties to sit with the experts. But they could not give any proof that the EVMs are flawed.
