The electronic voting machines (EVMs) are not made from any deep technology, rather the machine is produced using light technology, Prof Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal has said.
He said that there were new technologies in the market for similar machines. The retired professor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology said that even university students prepare their project papers on EVMs.
He made the comments during a dialogue between academics and the new Election Commission at the EC building in Agargaon on Sunday.
The EC started the dialogue with representatives from different professions and eminent citizens to prepare a roadmap for the commission’s activities.
In the first of a series of discussions, the commission sat with several eminent academics of the country.
Prof Zafar Iqbal said that no matter how hard someone worked, he or she would have to be prepared for criticism. “Working with integrity, therefore, is important rather than paying heed to criticism.”
He further said that expatriate Bangladeshis were also concerned of the well-being of the countrymen. The commission must devise ways of bringing them under the voting system.
