CCC polls: AL, BNP mayoral aspirants submit nomination papers

Awami League-backed mayoral aspirantRezaulKarim Chowdhury and BNP-backed mayoral aspirant Dr ShahadatHossainfor the upcoming Chittagong City Corportion (CCC) polls submitted their nomination paper to the Returning Officer on Thursday.

After submitting his nomination, Rezauladdressing the media, said that he would implement the ongoing development projects after being elected to the mayoral office.

“Chittagong will be turned into an environment-friendly and health city. Concerted efforts would be made in cooperation with the concerned experts. I will try my level best to meet people’s expectations,” said Rezaul, also joint general secretary of Awami League’s Chittagong city unit.

The mayoral aspirant also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.

Referring to the allegations raised by BNP about level playing field, Rezaul said that BNP is in the habit of making allegation and criticism.

Meanwhile, while Dr ShahadatHossain submitted his nomination to the Returning Officer, with senior BNP leader Jafrul Islam Chowdhury, BNPCentral Organizing Secretary MahbuberRahman Shamim, BNP Chittagong city Vice President Abu Sufian and Secretary AbulHashemBakkar accompanyinghim.

Amid tight security at Chittagong Election Office, the councillor candidates from different wards of the city also submitted their nomination papers on the same day.

There are 41 general and 14 reserved wards in the city.
