Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam has said there will no scope to raise any questions related to the upcoming Upazila Parishad (UP) election scheduled to be held in Rajshahi on March 10.
“We have adopted all kinds of requisite measures to hold the election in a neutral, free, and fair manner,” he said addressing a law and order related special meeting centering the UP election at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner’s office in Rajshahi as the chief guest on Wednesday.
Chaired by Rajshahi division Commissioner Nur-Ur-Rahman, the meeting was addressed by Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader, Superintendent of Police Md Shahidullah, Commanding Officer of RAB 5 Lt Col Mahbub Alam, and Senior District Election Officer Saiful Islam.
Rafiqul said the Election Commission is working relentlessly in proper coordination with the local administration so that the voters can exercise their right of franchise freely.
He mentioned that ensuring and maintaining a peaceful situation is very important or making the election free, fair, and credible.
“Not a single unpleasant incident will occur if the party leaders concerned control their workers and activists strictly,” he further said.
In the meeting, he urged the law enforcement agencies to discharge their respective duties with utmost sincerity and honesty to make the election successful.
After the meeting, Rafiqul Islam told journalists that a Member of Parliament (MP) has no scope of participating in any election campaign and the Election Commission has already issued letter to the Jatiya Sangsad Speaker so that no MPs take part in the upazila election campaign.
