Upazila polls: 20 chairman aspirants to be elected uncontested in 1st, 2nd phase

As many as 20 chairman aspirants are going to be elected uncontested in 1st and 2nd phase of the upcoming upazila polls, slated for March 10 and March 18 respectively.

Out of the 20 contestants, seven are contesting in the 1st phase and the remaining 13 are contesting in 2nd phase of the upazila polls.

Election Commission’s Assistant Secretary of Election Management Department Ashfaque Rahman said this on Wednesday after finishing the data compilation.

In the 1st phase of polls in 86 upazilas, a total of 19 aspirants are set to be elected uncontested. 

Of these 19 aspirants, seven are for chairman posts, 5 for vice-chairman posts and 7 for reserved womens’ vice chairman posts.

In the 2nd phase of polls in 124 upazilas, a total of 24 candidates are set to be elected uncontested.

Of these 24 aspirants, 13 are for chairman posts, 5 for vice-chairman posts and 6 for reserved womens’ vice-chairman posts.

The upazilas in which candidates are unopposed in the 1st phase

Seven upazila chairman candidates are from Boda, Nilphamari Sadar, Joypurhat Sadar, Melandaha, Madarganj, Sarishabari and Jamalpur Sadar.

Five upazila vice-chairman candidates are from Melandaha, Madarganj, Sarishabari, Ullahpara, and Shahjadpur.

Seven women vice-chairman candidates are from Lalmonirhat Sadar, Ullahpara, Shahjadpur, Natore Sadar, Godagari, Melandaha and Madarganj.

The last date of nomination withdrawal was on February 19. 

The upazilas in which candidates are unopposed in the 2nd phase

Thirteen upazila chairman candidates are from Adamdighi, Naogaon Sadar, Pabna Sadar, Moulvibazar Sadar, Faridpur Sadar, Hatiya, Sitakunda, Sandwip, Rangunia, Mirsharai, Raozan, Kaptai and Manikchhari.

Five upazila vice-chairman candidates are from Pabna Sadar, Faridpur Sadar, Boalmari, Hatiya and Raozan.

Five upazila women vice-chairman candidates are from Pabna Sadar, Kanaighat, Faridpur Sadar, Hatiya and Raozan.

The last date of nomination paper withdrawal is on February 27.
