A text message sent to several senior Election Commission officials over the last few days has threatened to blow up the commission secretariat.
Several officials showed the message to the Dhaka Tribune.
The message, sent in Bangla, says: “Allahu Akbar. Stop this kufri [blasphemous] election or be prepared for a terrible end at the hands of the mujahids. We are prepared to blow up the Election Commission at any time. Insha Allah @mujahideen.”

The 11th general election will be held on Sunday.
The Election Commission Secretariat is situated in Dhaka’s Agargaon.
Officials said the secretariat was tense after receiving these threats. The commission has asked law enforcement agencies to enforce a three-tier security blanket around the secretariat.
This is the first time someone has issued such a threat.
In the 10th general election, handmade bombs were exploded in front of the commission and outside the homes of the commissioners.
