Jatiya Oikya Front will not boycott the upcoming election under any circumstances, as they will put up a strong resistance together with the people against any irregularities in the general election, Oikya Front chief Dr Kamal Hossain said on Wednesday.
“We are in doubt about a fair election, but we will stay in the election race till the last,” he told reporters at his Motijheel office in Dhaka, reports UNB.
Dr Kamal also stated that with the help of the general people, Oikya Frontwould stand against vote-rigging and ensure proper vote counting and announcement of the election results.
The veteran lawyer, who is leading the opposition coalition, said the government’s actions had made it impossible to have a free and fair election on Sunday.
“However, we will stay in the race as participating in election is our right,” he added.
“Arrests are going on across the country. We get calls from different districts that candidates are being attacked and arrested.
“But we will stand our ground. They must not be able to say that we moved away from the election. Why should we move away? If they make it impossible for us in the end, the people will be the judge of that.”
Asked whether the Oikya Front will accept the results of the election, he said: “That can only be answered by looking at the situation."
