BNP candidate from Tangail 6 constituency Advocate Gautam Chakraborty's motorcade was attacked and vandalized while he was campaigning on Tuesday.
The former minister and BNP's central rural development and cooperative affairs secretary, along with 19 of his supporters, were injured during the attack.
The incident took place in the Dhubri area of Nagarpur upazila.
Gautam Chakraborty said: "I was returning to the upazila Sadar with my supporters and activists after finishing a rally in Dhubri. Suddenly, several Chhatra League men, supporters of Awami League candidate Ahsanul Islam Titu, attacked us with sticks. They vandalized three to four motorcycles of my supporters, and even attacked the car carrying me."
He added that Nagarpur police and the UNO have been informed about the matter.
Despite repeated attempts, Nagarpur police station OC Alam Chad but could not be reached for comment by phone.
