The Election Commission has asked field-level officials to build credibility and confidence among voters and candidates of the upcoming 11th general election.
“Build credibility and confidence so that the candidates and voters rely on you,” Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder told government officials—during a training session at the commission’s Agargaon office on Monday.
He said the commission will not tolerate any leniency. “You have to work without any fear.”
The commissioner said about one million government officials will work to hold the election.
He directed the officials to know about their jurisdiction—to exercise power in ensuring peace and curbing irregularities.
"We cannot allow the election to flow to any different direction," the commissioner added.
Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said aspirants who were disqualified by the commission will be able to file appeals until Wednesday.
He said the commission will hold a meeting with senior officials of law enforcement agencies on December 13. They will be given directions to maintain law and order at the field level during the election.
When is the election?
The 11th general election is scheduled to be held on December 30.
The commission scrutinized nomination papers on Sunday. The deadline to withdraw candidacies is on December 9.
