Left Democratic Alliance will join polls

The Left Democratic Alliance (LDA), a coalition of eight left-leaning political parties, has decided to participate in the 11th general election, now slated for December 30.

LDA Coordinator and CPB General Secretary Mohammad Shah Alam made the announcement at a press briefing held at the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) headquarters in Purana Paltan, Dhaka on Tuesday.

CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim also said: “Our alliance will participate in the polls as a part of our movement for holding an inclusive, free, fair and credible election.”

LDA leaders took the unanimous decision at a meeting, he added.

Selim said that LDA at the same time was also taking preparations to boycott the election if it was not held in a free and fair manner.

Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh General Secretary Saiful Huq, Ganasamhati Andolan central leader Julhsine Babu, Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist) central leader Manas Nandi, Socialist Party of Bangladesh central leader Bazlur Rashid Firoj, United Communist League central leader Abdus Satter and Samajtantrik Andolan Convener Hamidul Haque were present at Tuesday’s press conference, among others.
