EC instructs returning officers not to cancel nomination papers for minor error

The Election Commission has instructed returning officers not to cancel nomination papers for minor mistakes.

A circular has been issued in this regard on Saturday.

According to the instruction, if any error is found during scrutiny aspirants will have to fix them.

The instruction said no nomination papers can be cancelled for minor errors.

It also includes that if an aspirant collects more than one nomination paper, and one of them is valid then there is no need to scrutinize the others.

After the cancellation of a nomination paper, no other valid nomination papers of an aspirant will be considered cancelled.

Besides, any information mentioned in the affidavit cannot be changed or amended, the circular said.

On Thursday the Commission announced that the 11th general election will be held on December 23.

The deadline for nomination submission was set at November 19, with November 29 set as the last date for withdrawing nomination.

Nomination papers will be scrutinized on November 22.
