‘Go home, your vote’s been cast’

Two councillor candidates have alleged that their opponents are not letting their supporters cast votes in the Khulna City Corporation polls.

Mehedi Rezvi and Majeda Khatun claimed that supporters of their opponents were stuffing ballots at the D Ali Islamia Government Primary School in Ward No.27.

Many voters, like 50-year-old Abdus Sattar, had to return home without casting their votes.

Sattar told reporters that at the polling centre, he was told to go to another room.

“When I went there, the people there told me, ‘your vote has already been cast and there are no more ballot papers. Go home’,” he said.

Inspector Tofail, who is in charge of the polling centre’s security, brushed off the allegations.

“Such complaints are common during the election,” he said, adding, “The voting has been free and fair.”
