The Annual Debate Championship 2014 organised by the Mirpur branch of Scholastica School ended on Sunday. The championship, which had started on May 7, was held at the school’s Mirpur campus.
A total of eight teams comprising 32 students from classes VII to IX participated in the championship. The topics for the semifinal rounds were “English medium students have very little knowledge on Bangladeshi culture” and “T20 cricket has distorted the true essence of the game.”
The winning teams from the semifinal rounds debated on the topic “Grades do not totally indicate true intelligence or effort” in the final round, presenting splendid arguments and counter arguments.
Itrat Rahman, head of Training and Development at Scholastica, was present at the occasion as the chief guest and judge. Shafkat Wahid Pritom of Class VII was awarded “best speaker” in the final round.
