A leader of Jahangirnagar University unit Chhatra League assaulted a canteen owner of Mir Mosharrof Hossain Hall yesterday for serving lunch with a plastic plate.
Sources at the campus said Faisal Hossain Dipu, organising secretary of JU unit BCL, sent an employee of the dormitory to fetch his lunch from a hall canteen around 2:15pm and its owner Kamal Hossain provided the meal with a plastic plate which was seemed “offensive” to the leader.
Being angered by the incident, Dipu beat up Kamal Hossain with a cricket stump indiscriminately, leaving him injured.
Later, employees of the canteen whisked off him to JU medical centre where he was given first aid.
Kamal Hossain said there was no other plate to him to serve meals to the leader.
Contacted, Dipu said: “Despite warning him (Kamal) several times earlier not serving me with plastic plate, he did so. Being failed to control rage, I beat him up him.”
