The Ministry of Education on Friday said 50 seats are already reserved in the National Parliament gallery for students under 12, while the speaker has approved a proposal to allocate 100 additional seats in the visitors’ gallery for students.
The ministry said the expanded arrangement will allow more students to observe parliamentary proceedings directly and become familiar with democratic practices.
Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon said: “Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman used to take students on boat trips so they could learn about the country’s resources and potential. As education minister, I also want Gen Z to understand the state and become politically aware.”
The minister made the remarks during a discussion with Parliamentary Secretary Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, who welcomed the initiative.
Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan said visiting students will be briefed about parliament before the sitting begins. He added that the initiative will help them learn about the architecture, history, and traditions of the country’s parliament.
