HSC exams set to begin in late June

The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations for 2025 are scheduled to commence in the last week of June.

Preparations for the exams are underway, including the drafting of the examination routine.

On Tuesday, Professor Md Abul Bashar, controller of examinations at the Dhaka Education Board, confirmed the timeline to the media.

He said: “We have started preparations to hold the HSC exams in the last week of June. The tentative routine is being drafted, and we aim to submit it to the Ministry of Education for approval by the third week of this month.”

The form fill-up process for the HSC and equivalent exams will begin on March 2.

Colleges are required to publish the results of the preliminary (selection) exams by February 27 to facilitate this process.

In earlier years, SSC exams were conducted in February, and HSC exams in April.

However, the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted the academic calendar in March 2020, leading to significant changes in the schedule for public examinations.

The HSC and equivalent exams for 2024 began on June 30, but were suspended midway due to widespread protests.

The movement, which eventually led to the fall of the government, delayed the exams until September 11, when it was decided to resume the remaining tests.

However, many students protested, demanding the cancellation of the unfinished exams.

In response, the exams were postponed again, and the government announced that the remaining assessments would be conducted on half the total marks.

Despite this adjustment, protests intensified as students stormed the Secretariat, leading to the cancellation of the exams altogether.

To resolve the impasse, the education boards used subject mapping based on SSC and equivalent exam scores to announce results on October 15.

The pass rate for the 2024 HSC exams stood at 77.78%.

With a new year ahead, education authorities are working to restore stability to the examination process and ensure the timely completion of the 2025 HSC exams.
