JnU students lock VC office, demand army to take over campus development

Jagannath University students protested for a second day on Tuesday, demanding the army to take over the construction of their second campus.

Students marched across campus and gathered in front of the vice chancellor’s office at around 11:30am, locking the main entrance while over 500 students joined in chanting slogans.

Their three-point demand includes – prosecuting the allegedly corrupt project director appointed by the former administration and replace him with a qualified army officer within seven days, issuing an announcement from the Ministry of Education confirming the army’s management of the second campus project, along with a clear timeline for the transfer process, and acquiring the remaining 11 acres required for the second campus and void all questionable agreements made under the previous administration regarding the old campus.

Noor Nabi, a student from the Islamic Studies Department, said: “Our protest is directed at those who exploited the campus project for personal gain. Due to their actions, the second campus project has repeatedly stalled, and we are determined to ensure such mismanagement is prevented.”

Masud Rana, another student, added: “Outsiders appointed to university leadership have exploited Jagannath University’s resources. The administration should recognize our demands. If they had seen the resolve of JnU students in driving change, they would hand this project to the army within a month.”

The students have indicated their protest will continue until their demands are met.
